Algarve Artist Steven Johan Van den Berg was born on 11 jan. 1948 in Deventer, the Netherlands. In his teens Steven wanted to attended the Art Academy, but on parental advice went in to the business world instead. Now at a later age he is turning back to his old passion. He has never shown his work publicly. At some point he may exhibit. This website is a first step in that direction. Steven followed some painting courses notably in The Netherlands, in Italy and Portugal. He currently resides in the Algarve in Portugal and is building a proper studio where he intends to experiment and develop his work further.
Steven's Philosophy!
I started painting in my early teens during an emotionally challenging period. Painting provided soul healing and consolation. The choice of subject and of expression mattered because it reflected inner states that could not be expressed otherwise. Working high speed, on location and seeking essence and resonance between subject and the deeper layers of awareness allows for an experience of growth and the development of a signature style.

I have seen lots of different art work in the Algarve and have the pleasure of meting a lot of different Algarve Artists. I enjoy seeing new types of artwork and I most enjoy seeing art from around the Algarve. Luz is a beautiful place to sit around and enjoying painting for the day. I look forward to viewing more work from this Algarve Artist.
